Meet Attorney Steven D. Rothblatt
Steven D. Rothblatt is a native of Somerset, New Jersey and graduated from Franklin High School. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware. Mr. Rothblatt graduated from Law School at the American University, Washington College of Law, Washington DC with a Juris Doctor Degree, where he was an Executive Officer with the Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity and had internships with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Criminal Trial Section and the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, Somerville, N.J.
Mr. Rothblatt was admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1984. He began his legal career as a Deputy Attorney General with the New Jersey Attorney General's Office, Division of Criminal Justice where he worked in the Major Fraud and Unemployment Fraud Units. The law office of Steven D. Rothblatt was opened in 1984.
Mr. Rothblatt was appointed as the chief municipal prosecutor in three towns for a total of 23 years, namely Franklin Township for twelve years, Warren Township for six years, and Raritan Borough for five years. As a municipal prosecutor he was also able to participate in the Fugitive Safe Surrender Program in a four day period in 2010 when four thousand fugitives surrendered to law enforcement.
Mr. Rothblatt was a member of the initial group of lawyers that were certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey as a Municipal Court Trial Attorney in 2014. Currently he is one of only 27 lawyers in New Jersey achieving this lofty designation. In order to achieve this trial certification. Mr. Rothblatt was required to demonstrate to the Supreme Court that he was involved in a large number of trials and other litigated matters in municipal court, passed a rigorous written examination in various aspects of municipal court law, demonstrated an unblemished reputation by submitting a list of attorneys and judges who attested to his character and ability, and took a specific number of continuing legal education courses dealing with municipal court law.
Mr. Rothblatt has taught various law classes at colleges and legal assistant programs. He has also acted as an Arbitrator in Civil Division Cases in the Superior Court. Mr. Rothblatt has been a speaker at various Bar Association seminars for lawyers. He has also done pro bono legal work with the Rutgers University Woman's advisory program. Mr. Rothblatt was also an instructor for Franklin Township special police officers on effective methods of testifying in court. He was also qualified by the Superior Court of New Jersey as an expert witness in personal injury and other type civil litigation.
