The statute NJSA 39:4-81 for failure to observe a traffic signal results in two motor vehicle points for operating a vehicle without stopping at a traffic light or stop sign. This is a very common type of offense charged in motor vehicle accidents. It may be issued even if the driver stops at a stop sign but then drives ahead and fails to yield to another vehicle resulting in a crash.
